Google Earth Engine

Google Earth Engine (GEE) is one of the earlier cloud data processing and analysis platforms. The platform gives users access to a broad library of open data, from both Earth observation and non-Earth observation data. Users also have the option of supplying data to the platform themselves.

Google Earth Engine is a web-based integrated development and analysis environment, in which scripts can be written in both JavaScript or python. In addition, users also have access to an “application store” where user-created applications can be obtained. The platform offers an extensive library of resources and guides to help users get started and answer questions.

Until 2022, the platform was only available for non-commercial purposes such as research projects, education, non-profit organizations, etc. Commercial parties can now also gain access to the platform against payment. Each user has access to a basic virtual machine and storage, which can then be further expanded for a fee.
